Sponsoring a Senior in a Nursing Home

Do you work in a nursing home? You may be able to sponsor a senior for personal consulting.

It’s likely you’ve had a few residents who isolate themselves. They may not want to speak to anyone. They may not have many people visit them. This may make them upset and hard to work with throughout the day.

The truth is that these people are only upset because of the lack of communication. Just think about what it would feel like if you didn’t want to talk to anyone or no one wanted to talk to you. The reasons behind that vary, but the result that comes from deciding not to reach out others is depressing.

As you probably already know, depression manifests itself in emotions in two ways:

  1. Sadness
  2. Anger

Sadness is the response most people expect. Anger isn’t as expected. Many people have it, though.

The solution? Get them talking.

How Sponsor a Senior with Personal Consulting Can Help

This is not as easy as introducing the senior to someone. Usually, people have a tendency to focus on themselves, especially if they are with someone who isn’t forthcoming with a conversation. What you need is for the senior to speak to someone who only focuses on him or her.

By having someone, such as a personal consultant, ask the senior questions, intently listen, and provide support, the senior will be more likely to open up in time. With more personal consulting sessions, most seniors start to get more comfortable and look forward to the sessions. It gives them a chance to vent their thoughts and feelings.

The other great thing about a senior working with a personal consultant is that once he or she opens up to the consultant, the senior usually starts to open up to others. Slowly, they emerge from their isolation as they learn they can trust others as they have trusted their consultant. This is when the personal consultant phases out into the background as people around the senior come into the forefront.

Sponsor a Senior

Helping seniors with personal consulting sessions is what makes my sponsor a senior program great. Personal consulting isn’t like therapy. It doesn’t last a long time. It’s not about delving into the psyche of people. It’s about giving people the attention they deserve and the help and support they need through the troubles they are facing.
